Recycling Electronic Scrap

The problems associated with disposing of electronic scrap in landfill and also the risk inherent in leaking sensitive company data or the non-public health and financial data of customers and employees, has not gone un-noticed. In Europe since 2004, the EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive has tackled the rising tide of electronic scrap by requiring manufacturers to take back equipment for the express purpose of recycling electronic scrap. This has been aided by improvements in technology which allow for the effective dissolving of solder used in circuit boards yet have no effect on the performance of the electronic components. This process allows for almost 100% recoverability of the precious metals used in electronic componentry.
