Preventing Phishing Fraud

January 31st, 2008 | by admin |

There is this poor old man Mr. Smith living a few blocks away from my home. He is seventy six years old and had quite a sum of savings in his bank account. He was very self sufficient and was regularly visited by his two daughters and their families.

Unfortunately he ended up being a gullible victim of phishing fraud when he unsuspectingly provided details of his bank account as a reply to a mail he received supposedly from his Bank asking for them. It did not strike him that he should check with his bank over the phone before providing the details. He lost most of his savings before the fraud was discovered and stopped.
