All about Satellite TV service
February 18th, 2008 | by admin |The satellite dish needs to have a clear view of the southern sky in the northern hemisphere and the northern sky in the southern hemisphere. Most television satellites orbit the earth at or near the equator. The satellites each carry several transponders, which receive and transmit signals on a certain frequency or wavelength.
The signal picked up by the satellite tv service from Earth (generally from the satellite TV provider) and then sent back down to any open receiver pointed in the right direction. Typically this will be the satellite dish on your house or roof.
The satellite dish on your roof collects the signal, and the curved surface reflects the signal to the device at the front of the dish called a feedhorn. Once collected on the feedhorn, the signal is shot straight into a low-noise block downconverter, or LNB. In many modern dishes this device is incorporated into the feedhorn.
